Found in the Crowd

Updated: Sep 21, 2023

"Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you" ~James 4:8

As I was praying this morning, an image of myself as a child holding the Father's hand came to my mind. I realized God was never going to let me go. When a parent and child walk through a busy crowd, the parent holds the child's hand to guide them and keep them safe. The connection is severed only when the child breaks away to run off after something that catches his eye. Like a child in the crowd, He always holds my hand. Even when I pull away, I am never far from His sight.

Maybe you have pulled away, and now you feel lost. Or possibly the connection isn't entirely broken, but you can feel your fingers slipping. Like a lighthouse standing in a dark sea, Jesus is the constant in the crowd. How can you draw near to Him, as James says, when He feels so far away? Remember the abiding Psalm, "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path" (119:105). His Word will guide you back to Him, and once you're there, holding hands again, be at peace knowing Jesus firmly states, "no one will snatch them out of my hand" (John 10:28).

Always improve the present moment.
