"Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness" ~Philippians 2:29 How does it make you feel when someone smiles when they see you? It makes you feel good, doesn't it? You realize that your company is appreciated, and you are respected. It sounds simple enough, but the act of greeting someone with a warm smile can go further than we realize. Why do you think Paul instructed the followers in Phillippi to greet their old friend Epaphroditus with all gladness? Don't you think they would've already done that? Well, Paul was writing to tell them that Epaphroditus had nearly died, but God had mercy on him. I doubt the Phillipians expected Epaphroditus to come close to death when they sent him to Paul, but Paul wants them to realize how few men there are like Epaphroditus in the world. In fact, he put his life on the line for the Gospel. Paul is telling the congregation don't take your friend for granted and make sure you show Epaphroditus how much he is loved. Earlier, Paul states, "Most people around here are looking out for themselves, with little concern for the things of Jesus." Don't get so caught up in the "big picture" that you forget about "the things of Jesus" which most importantly includes your fellow man made in His Image. Just remember, the next time you smile at someone, also let them know how much they mean to you.
